Original paintings by a Peak District artist

The artist
I live in the Peak District, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The skies are huge, the views panoramic, and the constantly-changing light makes the spirits soar. Who, confronted by such beauty, wouldn’t want to capture it in paint?
I am Claire Kilner, and I paint the world around me; landscapes, flowers, buildings, people. The people I have painted are mostly my people; my family and friends. But if you like my style, why not commission me to paint your family or friends?
Landscapes…
The constantly-changing light on the scenery is what drives me to paint landscapes
I try to capture, in my paintings, the feeling inspired by the view, so although I often use a camera to capture the fleeting moment, and then work in my studio later, I want my paintings to convey more than the photograph.
…and portraits by commission
I have always loved drawing people
Moving from pencil to paint brought a new freedom to my portraits. It feels more like sculpting than painting, as the subject gradually emerges from the canvas and takes on a life of its own.
